TREASURY NOTES

February, 2004

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Steve Hutt, Denver County

Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope the holiday season was as enjoyable for all of you and your families as it was for me and mine.

Once again the warmth, friendship and support for each other in our Association came through loud and clear when 14 people came to Denver on January 22 to represent the CCTA in saluting  Leola Harris on the occasion of her retirement.  Nine treasurers made the trip to Denver:  Sandra Berry, Jim Covington, Jamie Crocket, Larry Gilliland, Roxy Huber, Doris Porth, Myrna Rodenberger, Karen Sheaffer and Gini Woltemath.  They were joined by Margo Painter and Kathy Knox from Eagle County and Irene Josey from Larimer, and by spouses George Crocket and Mel Porth.  So many of my staff commented on the affection and support for Leola from around the State that was evident among those who joined us for the event.  My thanks also go to all of you who send cards and notes to Leola too.  We will all MISS her!

We have promoted into Bankruptcy Agent position the person who had bee assisting Leola the past several years.  Her name is Karen Katros.  She is available directly by phone at (720) 865-7238 or by email at karen.katros@ci.denver.co.us.  She will be glad to field any requests for help on bankruptcies, but please remember that all of us will be at a disadvantage for quite a while until we re-build the expertise and years of experience that Leola had in this area.  But give her a call, and we'll try our best to help out!

ADAMS COUNTY:  John Lefebvre, Treasurer

CCTA Christmas Party began with an exhibit at the Ironton Galleries, which featured the Colorado Woodworker Guild exhibit.  We were treated to one of the most outstanding displays of the modern craft of furniture making.  Examples of marquetry and contemporary designs abounded.  Despite the short notice, our Christmas party was well attended and the staff at the University Club was very hospitable.  The University Club has been in its present location for over 100 years, housed in a six-story brick building with wood paneled interiors and leaded glass windows adorned with heavy tapestries.  Our Christmas party was held in the Reading room - a place where members sit and visit or read newspapers and periodicals during the day.  The Reading room has a huge limestone fireplace and is surrounded by leaded glass windows.  We initially met in front of the fireplace for warm conversation and cool cocktails.  Later we reassembled a few feet away for dinner.  It was a great opportunity to socialize with our fellow Treasurers.

Thanks John for memorable event!

FREMONT COUNTY:  Gini Woltemath, Treasurer

As of February 2, 2004, the Fremont County Treasurer's office will have a new Deputy Treasurer, Dana Payne.  Dana has been with the office for over 12 years and I am looking forward to working with her as my Chief Deputy.  My former Deputy Treasurer, Dixie Madsen, has retired.  Just a thought - maybe when we are appointing our Deputy, one needs to make sure that he or she is younger by far than we are and that we retire before they do (haha).

VALENTINE Food for Thought
Shared by Doris Porth, Custer County Treasurer

"Cabbage" always has a heart; "Green Beans" string along.
You're such a cute "tomato", will you "peas" to me belong?
You've been the "apple" of my eye, you know how much I care;
So "lettuce" get together, we'd make a perfect "pear".
Now something's sure to "turnip" to prove you can't be "beet";
So, if you "carrot" all for me, let's let our "tulips" meet.
Don't "squash" my hopes and dreams now, Bee my "honey", dear;
Or tears will fill "potato's" eyes, while "sweet corn" lends an ear.
I'll "cauliflower" shop and say, your dreams are "parsley" mine.
I'll work and share my "celery", SO BE MY VALENTINE.
