October/November, 2003
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Steve Hutt, Denver County
As Seminar approaches in Fort Collins the week of October 20, I first want to thank everyone who organized and attended the recent Eastern Division meeting in Limon. With no blizzard to get in the way of travel this time, almost 30 Treasurers and Public Trustees attended! The roundtable discussion on Friday ran overtime, with lots of questions asked and answered.
Seminar promises to be a fun and busy week. The Larimer County folks, as always, have put together a great program, now under Myrna Rodenberger's direction.
We have added one special event to the schedule for Seminar: a debate on Tuesday morning between the supporters and opponents of Amendment 32 on this November's ballot. That is the proposed State Constitutional Amendment that would revise the Gallagher Amendment, which was originally enacted in 1982 to protect residential taxpayers from sharp rises in their property taxes. Although the CCTA is not taking a position on the Amendment, because it is all about property taxes, I expect many of us will be asked about it in our counties. We will have the top advocates on both sides with us that morning in Ft. Collins to explain it and debate the pro's and con's.
I hope to see all of you there, for a fun, casual and educational week.

SEVEN WONDERS
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present Seven Wonders of the World. Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple, ordinary & take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder about the most precious things in life.
